The Super-complicated mechanism has spread rapidly
throughout the world since Breguet(1747-1823) invented it in
the 18th century.
The function, now called a repeater, has two types of movement, namely
minutes and quartz, and the former is more expensive than the latter,
due to its complexity and sensitivity.
Also, the repeater, which is often thought to be for the blind, tells
punctual time by steering internal gears and making a chime-like
sound, and was originally made as a luxury item for European aristocrats
and was very expensive.
Shellman Grand Complication's Minutes Repeater has a sophisticated
function that tells the hours and the minutes with two distinct chimes,
and by synthesizing three types of frequencies, recreates the sound
of a mechanical watch.
A specially ordered case is used in order to make the sound it makes as similar
to that of a mechanical repeater as possible. |
